I have recently seen the movie "Dont Be A Menace In South Central" I believe that this movie would be a good movie to write about because different views and tones. I saw a lot of different examples in this movie about rhetoric that made it confusing because it would change from serious to comedy. The movie dont be a menace is a movie dealing with the life of a few gangsters in the city of South Central. They try to show you the sopposable daily life of people in the hood. Through out the movie they dont really use many different rhetorical devices but they do incorporate devices such as logos pathos and ethos in their tones.
"Tray i dont want you hanging out in the streets, i want you to stay in school because without an education the only job you will get is selling drugs, pimping woman, or working security for eddie Murphy. Now i have done what i can i got my education and worked two jobs to support you but i cant teach you how to be a man only your father can do that." This was one of the quotes the movie began with, this quote can be used both as Ethos and Pathos. It can be seen as Ethos because the Tray's mother is using her background and education to backup what she is telling him about being someone in life. She is creditable because she has actually become a positive black female in the movie. She is also using Pathos in her small speech because she is applying all the hardships she went to towards her son and telling him that all shes gone through was for him. She applies to his sense of emotion to make him feel more on the fact that he has to become some one in life.
Another example well used in the movie to cause a sense of seriousness as well as comedy is preechs a formal gang member turned activist. When he is introduced he starts saying." You all need to stop using nigger. You see It is terms like nigger that the white community uses to take the self esteem from another race. Oh yea. Remind me to pick up my laundry from that mother F$#$%^ chick up the street." the sense of seriousness he causes by explaining the situation of the term "niger" causes a serious effect but turns into comedy when he changes it when he uses another curse word to describe someone else.
This movie is really interesting, it causes interest because of the tone they use through out the movie. The change in word usage and rhetoric through the movie causes a hook and makes you wanna keep watching it. I really recommend this movie to anyone who likes comedy perodies. This movie is a parody done to an actual drama from the actual hood.

Hello Hernan,
You amaze me once again with your blog. I like how you compare your blog to a movie. You made me be interested in this movie. This movie would not just be a comedy. I could use it in a way of learning. In figuring out what devices are use. Really good Hernan.
What i also like was how you use quotes. This made me realized that this movie doe shoe pathos and ethos. I had watched this movie more than once and I never really saw it that way. What really help me was when you explain how he use this two babies of rhetoric. I was a little confused of how mixing up pathos and ethos and by u explaining it to me you kind of clarify it for me.
Hello Hernan,
As I was reading your blog, I felt that the movie you chose was very effective in portraying logo, pathos and ethos. i liked how you cited specific parts of the movie to create a better understanding of what you wanted to deliver. Nevertheless, I think that next time you should change genres to make the blog very appealing.
Overall great work and I am really excited to read your next post.
Hernan,
I haven't seen this movie yet but with your analysis of the movie I will pay more attention to the rhetorical devices you pointed out. These will change the way I view the movie. Just like when I first saw a movie with Mr. Cook I saw how to deconstruct a movie into specific parts.
Hey Hernan,
You had to pick one of the best parody movies ever created huh! Well yeah allot of pathos is used as well as ethos as well as the usage of rhetorical devices such as hyperbole. Like this example,Loc. Dog"Everyone in the hood been up in her! She got more kids than Mrs. Wayans!" As you could tell hernan they use hyperbole in this quote.
Either way i have a question, Do you think that in other parody movies they also use rhetoric? if yes in which movies? Well anyways great movie choice and I hope you do the Lord Of the Rings Return of The King *Wink Wink* but the rest of your blog is great and good job.
Hernan da bday boi!,
A VERY GOOD CHOICE OF MOVIE, i MYSELF HAVEN SEEN IT BUT IT SEEMS LIKE IT HAS VERY GOOD EXAMPLES THAT YOU RE ABLE TO ELABORATE TO US ON HOW HUMOR IS BEING INTRODUCED AND WELL THAT HAS A LOT OF DIFFERENT EXAMPLES.[sorry about the cap]
I think that as you were trying to show us how rhetoric in the movie was being used you also, give us a fantastic review which in my part I believe is very good because not everyone can do that your writing is improving I'm very glad of that.
I don't really think I'm the best writer in the class. I'm very organized, but that's about it.
lol. So that's why you kept seeing that movie over and over again.
the rhetoric in that movie really is a strange one because it does have it's serious moments.
I think this movie would be considered satire-like because it is making fun of human society, a parody of what humans think, and it makes fun of what humans do.
Dear Hernan,
I think that you made a very good blog because you really explained how rhetoric applies to this movie and how it works by getting specific quotes from the movie and explaining it in the end. I think that this blog is one of the best ones.
I haven't seen the movie but by the examples that you have shown it made me want to learn about it more. I would want to watch the movie if i have time to see these types of rhetoric you are talking about. Anyways, good job about the blog hernan.
Dear Hernan,
I'm curious to know, why in your opening paragraph you wrote "...supposable daily of people in the hood." I would actually like to know your opinion towards this comment you made a bit more. I seemed to notice on the example you gave us of the movie( or quick preview) that it used The Rule of Three, "...the only job you will get is selling drugs, pimping woman, or working security for Eddie Murphy."
My compliment on your blog one you used very well quotes from the movie "Don’t Be a Manace in South Central." My second compliment seems as if you understand most of the movie. Hernan, when you want your readers to emphasize on specific word(s) to either bold them or highlight them, just as Ms. Vernon suggested to my group.
Sincerely,
Masyeli M.
Dear Diana,
"For One More Day” by Albom's used The Rule of Three in this sentence, "Having lost his family, job, and reputation." I know this is obvious but I noticed Len and Posey have an opposite view on life; maybe their marriage wasn’t bound to last because of their huge differences. Well I don’t know if its right, but it's my opinion. Also I liked that the author used a lot of Pathos, also the change in his life is remarkable. It's very touching and intriguing once I read the end of the story. In my opinion I think that kids would appreciate more there families more if they read more beyond this book, besides what you have in you blog. Also I'm complimenting your very outstanding selection of word choice, you left me, astonished once I finishing reading your blog (also during). Don’t worry you did an achieving job on this blog two thumbs up like the movie critics say.
Sincerely,
Masyeli M.
Hello Hernan,
I agree with "Leo". It was a good addition with your citing. The movie you chose is perfect because you actually chose something that you are familiar about. I appreciate that because, you're not sounding fake.
You did good.
Diana
Hernan,
Refering back to your comment I would like to say thank you but It Is not my birthday. Sorry perhaps you got the wrong Jennifer.
I enjoyed your blog very well. In my opionion you have one of the most interesting topics in the class. As well as others i also enjoy this movie due to its comedy. Since i read your blog you made me wonder about the use of language and writting in this movie. I never saw this movie based on ethos, logo, or pathos. I also like the way you useqoutes to support your opinion or statements. With your explanation of logos, ethos and pathos i was able to understand the movie through another perspective. I hope to learn more about movies through the use of logos, pathos and ethos. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
Hernan,
This was a good blog. I really liked how you explained the first example of rhetorical appeals in the movie. You were clear because you gave the appeals and explained them. I believe that your second example has potential because I see what you are trying to say but you might need to explain in better. Either way good job, but I'm confused is this the "normal" movie or the one with the wayans brothers?
Hello Hernan,
Once i read your blog, i must say you chose a good movie to talk about in your blog. I personally agree that its good to chose that shows the life of a family and even though i haven't seen the movie it sounds pretty good. For example, the way you used the quotes to explain your answer as to the movie having logos, pathos, and ethos. I believe that the point that you are expresing is making a point and is understandable. Therefore, i must say you chose a good movie to show the rhetorical devices that it is using.
