Pans Labyrinth is a movie that takes place in 1944. Pan Labyrinth is about a girl who loved fairy tales. She is sent with her pregnant mother to live with her stepfather. Her stepfather was a Captain of the Spaniard army. When she arrives in the small town where she was to live she is visited by a fairy at night. This fairy leads her to a labyrinth where in the center she finds an old faun. He tells her she is a princess and in order to prove that her royal blood was still in tact she had to complete several different tasks. In the end of the movie it doesn't explain whether all she saw was a dream or a real reality because after her stepfather shoots her and she dies she end ups with the king which is suppose to be her real father.
Ofelia which is the main character uses her language and tone in the movie to describe her emotions and her actions. The way she talks to her mother about how she feels about her stepfather truly symbolizes her discomfort towards him. Her problems with her stepfather and her love over fairy tales is what leads her into a world of magic.
Another really strong for of rhetoric that is shown through out the movie is the way she talks to the faun. She always talks with a questionable tone. Her tone in the movie make her sound uncomfortable. She doesn't know what to do or believe but she does what the faun tells her because of the troubles she goes through in her home. Towards the ending of the movie she looses all trust in the faun. The faun tells her that he needs a drop of blood from her baby brothers blood and she refuses to give it. He tells her that the only way she can return to her parents is to give a drop of blood but she completely refuses.
When she refuses to give in the child the faun tells her she will never see him again and she will not be able to go back with her real parents. As soon as the faun dissapeared her stepfather arrived and he made her give him the child. As soon as she did he shot her. She died and met up with her real parents. They told her everything was a test and that the last one she didn't fell, she passed because she didnt give an innocents childs life. She was allowed to live next to her real parents and forever be happy.
I think this movie has a good rhetoric. The way Ofelia uses her words and voice show the tone of the movie. The tone of the movie of the movie is questioning. Questioning because you cant really calculate whats gonna happen next but by the tone of her voice you know what she will or will not do.

Dear Hernan,
I have read your post, and I am confused what are you talking about. I mean, the assignment was simply to write a welcome post and introduce your topic. Okay, maybe you did messed up and didn't hear right, but next time try to pay attention because later on, it will hurt you. Hernan, I did like about the movie you talked about because you made me feel I was there, but next time Hernan try to listen.
Your writing friend,

Hernan that was a good blog about the movie but i agree with joel, the assignment was just simply to write an introduction about your topic. but your introduction is really good. you tried to hook the audience with adjectives. for me it really was good. do you agree people?
Dear Hernan,
I liked the description you gave about the movie. It makes me intereted and I feel like watching it. In the movie there is some type of confusion because of her fairy tales and real life. When you watch this movie did you get confused? What attracted you into watching this movie? What was the tone that she used and what were some of the words she said? When I was reading you repeated some words and sentences. Next time you write consider taking a look back at what you wrote befored posting.
i have actually tried to see the movie, but i got lost b/c i tuned in about ten minutes too late. that movie sounds really cool though, but i know i would get lost somewhere in the middle. you might wanna talk more about the rhetoric of the movie than the movie itself. just a suggestion!
p.s. so, does that mean I'm kool-aid? THANK YOU
Hola Panchito!
Don't forget the movie's setting was during World War Two (i believe). Pan's Labyrinth is an amazing story. Such a sad ending, i must say.
But maybe you can help me out with something. I am still a bit confused in how rhetoric is used a movie. I mean does that still include logos, ethos and pathos? Help me out please!

After reading your post, it was nice how you compared your topic to a movie. There were parts of the reading that I found confusing like the parts where you said she had to do tasks to be with her real parents. I don't understand it because if she had to die to reunite with her parents what were the tasks meant for. Aside from all these things, this was a good movie to compare with the topic you had because it does show examples of what you are writing about.
Well Hernan,
You really surprise me.You body was so fabulous. I like the was you express your topic and the way you use the detail. You had excellent grammar.Well i have to tell you again how much you impressed me.The thing i like about your introduction was how you use an annecdote to catch the readers attention and then got to the point. When i first saw your blog it made me not want to read it, but by reading the first sentences i got attch to your paper like gum toa shoe and read it even two times.Well i just want to cngratulate you for all the effort you put in your blog and all that good information.
Leslie's right on, asking for examples.
Be sure, Hernan -- and all, that when you say someone spoke a certain way that you quote the words they use and explain how those words prove your point.
Diana is quite good at this; see her if you need help.
